Finding global operations

Many companies have operations in other countries. There are two ways to identify those countries in which companies have operations.

Neither method is completely comprehensive because the results are dependent on the company reporting assets from operations in geographic segments or the company including foreign operations in their business description. For the most comprehensive results, try performing both search methods and compile the results.

1. Search for geographic segment information. Both Bloomberg and Capital IQ include geographic segment data as a screening criterion.

How to: Use Equity screening (EQS) in Bloomberg to identify geographic segment information.

How to: Use the screening function in Capital IQ to identify geographic segment information.

2. Search for companies that mention countries or regions of operation in their business (company) descriptions. Bloomberg, Capital IQ and OSIRIS databases perform this type of screening.
