This guide was developed for a Training Thursday for LCR staff in Winter 2015. It describes where and how to search for health information for you and your family, and highlights the best resources in U of C's collections and on the open web.
This guide introduces LCR staff to the best health information in U of C's collections and on the Internet, produced for patients and the general public. Coverage includes annotated lists of free and subscription resources, as well as background information that helps you understand and interpret medical research. Some of these resources are aimed entirely at a general audience; others are primarily for health professionals, but also contain patient information. Use the links in the box on the left to access the various sections of the guide.
A note on free web sites: Most of the free sites listed in this guide receive the HONcode designation from the Health on the Net Foundation, an internationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging the dissemination of qualilty health information to the public. Sites displaying the HONcode logo can be considered trustworthy sources of health information.
