Key Associations/Societies

You will find a list of energy related associations, organizations and government departments including a brief blurb from their "about us" tabs and a link to their website. Often the sites below will include industry profiles, statistics and data and sometimes membership information. It’s very important to consider association information when doing energy research because these groups are often the voice of the entire industry. They will give an idea of what the latest trends are, what legislation regulates their industry and who makes up their membership.

Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers - "CAPP is the voice of the upstream oil and natural gas industry in Canada."

Small Explorers and Producers Association of Canada - " SEPAC represents the unique interests of emerging and junior oil and gas companies, to the public, governments and other sectors of the energy industry"

Canadian Solar Industries Association - "CanSIA is a federally registered not-for-profit association whose membership is comprised of individuals, companies and governments sharing an interest in solar technology"

Canadian Nuclear Association -  "CNA is a non-profit organization established in 1960 to represent the nuclear industry in Canada and promote the development and growth of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes."

Canadian Society for Unconventional Gas - "CSUG...educating the public and industry about unconventional gas."

Canadian Wind Energy Association - "CWEA is a non-profit trade association that promotes the appropriate development and application of all aspects of wind energy in Canada, including the creation of a suitable policy environment."

Canadian Gas Association - "The CGA is the voice of Canada 's natural gas delivery industry."

Canadian Geothermal Energy Association - "CanGEA is non-profit association promoting the development and use of sustainable geothermal energy in Canada."

Key Organizations

Centre for Energy - "...non-profit organization created in 2002 to meet an urgent need for information on all aspects of the Canadian energy system from crude oil, natural gas, coal, hydroelectric power and geothermal generation through to nuclear, solar, wind and other sources of energy, as well as energy transmission and distribution systems, and energy end use."

Pembina Institute - To advance sustainable energy solutions through innovative research, education, consulting and advocacy.

Chicago Climate Exchange -  "...the world’s first and North America’s only legally binding rules-based greenhouse gas emissions allowance trading system, as well as the world’s only global system for emissions trading based on all six greenhouse gases."

Key Government Departments/Agencies

Alberta Energy and Utilities Board - "EUB is an independent, quasi-judicial agency of the Government of Alberta."

Geological Survey of Canada - "The GSC is Canada's premier agency for geoscientific information and research, with world-class expertise focusing on geoscience surveys, sustainable development of Canada's resources, environmental protection, and technology innovation."
