When searching the library's catalog for books, kits, DVDs, etc. here are some general subject headings to try:
- Native Peoples Canada
- Indians of North America
- Indigenous Peoples Canada
- First Nations (not a true subject heading but it will bring up titles of resources with this phrase in it)
If you know the name of the Nation, use that in your catalog search. Here are some examples:
- Cree, Mohawk, Iroquois, Assiniboine, Metis, Inuit
- Blackfoot also Siksika
- Peigan and Blood also Kainah
- Sarcee and Sarsi also Tsuu T'ina
Please note, that you may need to include outdated, inappropriate, or problematic terms, like “Indian(s)” when searching for historical work. To view a list of current, proper terms, and their usage, please refer to the Terminology tab located in the Indigenous Topics guide.
