About the Archive

The Richard Johnston Canadian Music Archives are named in memory and honour of composer and educator Dr. Richard Johnston, who worked tirelessly to develop the Canadian Music Archives, and who acted as Dean of Fine Arts from 1968-1973 and Professor of Music from 1973-1983 at the University of Calgary. The archives are comprised of fonds and collections from prominent Canadian composers, music associations and musicians of national and/or international stature, and with a focus on folk music research materials by Canadians well known in the field and materials pertaining to the historical aspects of music education in Canada.
