Searching Maps at UCalgary Libraries and Cultural Resources

Steps for Searching UCalgary Map Collections

Step One

Try these places first:

  • SANDS Web Applications: These are tools created by the team in SANDS to help with searching some of our most popular map, data and air photo collections

  • Our UCalgary Library Catalogue: You can search for the maps in the collection that have already been catalogued (you can use the advance searching options to filter your search results to maps resources)

  • UCalgary Digital Collections: The Historical Map Collection is where we make our digitized maps available

Step Two

Explore the rest of this guide which includes recommendations resources for common kinds of searches and has links to other resources and collections outside of UCalgary.

Step Three

If you do not find what you are looking for using the sites above, contact us! We have a lot of maps that will not appear in searches using the tools listed above. We will be happy to help you!

When you reach out, let us know:

  • What questions you are hoping to answer

  • The time period you are researching

  • Whether you want to see the items in person or online

  • Whether you are a part of the UCalgary community (staff or student) or part of the broader community

Almost all of the maps at UCalgary are stored at the High Density Library and must be delivered to the main campus. Let us know what you are looking for a week before you want to come in so we have time to locate and transport the maps for you.
