Community Users
Residents of Calgary who wish to borrow books from the University of Calgary Libraries may be eligible to get a free community card. Alberta residents who reside outside of Calgary may be able to borrow books with The Alberta Library card.
Are you a member of an Alberta Public Library?
Most Alberta libraries participate in The Alberta Library (TAL) Card program. If you belong to a participating library, you can borrow materials from the University of Calgary Libraries. Before you come, obtain a TAL Card (free) from your home library.
Your TAL Card allows you to:
- Check out up to 50 books.
- Renew your checked-out item unless someone else has requested it.
- This card does not give remote access to our electronic materials. Access to this material is only available on campus using our computers. To use library computers, sign up for a guest log-in at library service desks. Please bring a photo ID.
Users From Other Libraries
If you are visiting from another university or from another Alberta library, you can learn about borrowing.
Electronic Books
There are a number of examples of electronic books listed within this guide as well as when you are searching the catalogue for resources. As a Community user electronic books can only be viewed online within a U of C library. They are included within the guide just to show you the different resources that are available.
