Finding News in Canada
There are several sources of Canadian news. Some of them originate in Canada, others originate from other countries. For local information, a good source is your local public library. Please note websites may charge for accessing content.
Prominent newspapers like the Globe and Mail have their own finding tools and databases. Other newspapers are part of larger databases and news aggregators. A list of currently subscribed newspaper databases is available at:

- Provincial Archives of Alberta (PAA)The PAA operates according to the Historical Resources Act which provides for the "operation, maintenance, and development of the Provincial Archives of Alberta", as well as for the "acquisition, preservation, publication and public exhibition of documents, parchments, manuscripts, records, books, maps, plans, photographs, magnetic tapes, or other materials regardless of physical form, the preservation of which is in the public’s interest."
The Glenbow Western Research Centre has access to a number of newspapers from Southern Alberta.
- Glenbow ArchivesThe Glenbow Library and Archives has extensive holdings of unpublished documents and photographs related to the history of Western Canada. It houses a wide-ranging collection of unpublished archival records (such as diaries, letters, minute books, photographs, scrapbooks, speeches, membership lists, films, and sound recordings) for over 3,000 individuals, families, clubs, businesses, schools, and organizations in Calgary, southern Alberta and Western Canada. Areas of specialty include First Nations (especially Blackfoot), Mounted Police, pioneer life, ranching and agriculture, the petroleum industry, politics (especially the farmers' movement), labour and unions, women, the arts (especially theatre), and businesses.

Membership in Center for Research Libraries provides access to a wide range of uncommon materials, with a focus on news, law and government, finance, the history of science, technology and engineering, and the history and economics of agriculture. The approximately five million newspapers, journals, books, pamphlets, dissertations, archives, government publications, and other resources held by CRL support original research and teaching. CRL holdings include materials from all world regions: Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Central, South and Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe. While these shared collections are largely paper and microform, CRL provides online access to a continually expanding body of digital materials. - Maclean's magazine archive This link opens in a new windowMaclean's Magazine Archive, offering content from 1905-2015, a Canadian news and general interest magazine, provides a unique perspective on both national and international affairs. Topics include investigative reporting, opinion and analysis on politics, economy and business, science and technology, society, arts and culture, education and work. It was initially known as then The Busy Man's Magazine from 1896-1911, with a couple of 1905 issues published as The Business Magazine, and then changed to the current title, Maclean's, in 1911.

- Vox Magazine This link opens in a new windowIn September 1983, under the editorship of station manager Grant Burns and Shelley Youngblut (later to helm The Calgary Herald's entertainment weekly magazine Swerve) CJSW 90.9 FM printed and distributed the first issue of VOX magazine, a monthly publication containing a program guide, music reviews and interviews, and features on local and independent bands. Subsequent VOX editor Bill Reynolds later went on to edit eye weekly in Toronto. Ian Chiclo (editor 1991-1995) became the editor, and eventually the publisher, of Fast Forward Weekly. VOX would become Calgary’s longest-running arts and entertainment magazine until its final printing in 1998, when it was purchased by the now-defunct Calgary Straight magazine.
