Why Search a Database?
Searching a music database gets rid of all the irrelevant results that you might get when searching on the library main page. Your search will be efficient and your results will be precise, specific and relevant.
Music Databases
- Music Periodicals DatabaseThe database offers access to over 610 international music periodicals, of which 225 are full text, including complete runs of over 54 important titles, such as the Journal of the American Musicological Society and Notes.
- RILM abstracts of music literatureRILM abstracts of music literature has over 875,000 records in 143 languages from 178 countries.
- Music IndexThis database provides comprehensive coverage of the music field and every aspect of the classical and popular worlds of music.
- Oxford Music OnlineOxford Music Online is the gateway to Grove Music Online with access to search The Oxford Dictionary of Music and The Oxford Companion to Music: 52,000 articles written by nearly 9,000 scholars charting the diverse history and cultures of music around the globe.
- RIPM Retrospective Index to Music PeriodicalsUnique collection of primary source material and periodicals for the study of music and musical life from 1760 to 1966.
- Canadian Music Periodical IndexThe CMPI database includes over 37,000 entries on articles dating from the late-19th century to the present day. Canadian music journals, newsletters and magazines are represented in this index.
- Music Periodicals of the 19th CenturyMusic Periodicals of the 19th Century is a collection of full-text periodicals depicting American musical life from 1838 to the early 1900s through local and international news, reviews, editorials, sheet music, and advertisements. Over 200,000 pages of material will be available for research on the Alexander Street multimedia platform – the only resource that allows users to cross-search the full text of all articles with videos, audio recordings, photographs, scores, and reference texts.
Interdisciplinary Databases
- Academic Search CompleteA scholarly multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 4,600 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,500 journals and a total of more than 10,000 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc.
- JSTORJSTOR is a shared digital library which includes over 2,300 academic journals (dating back to the first volume ever published), along with thousands of monographs and other materials relevant for education. JSTOR also includes articles in the public domain, including Early Journal Content (U.S. content published before 1923 and non-U.S. content published prior to 1870).
- Web of ScienceWeb of Science indexes core journal articles, conference proceedings, data sets, and other resources in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities.
