Health and Society

Health and Society students study individuals, populations, systems and ideas. They use social and medical sciences together to ask and answer crucial questions about health and well-being in order to address issues such as health promotion, disease prevention, social change, patient care, and building better health systems locally and globally.

Key Skills & Knowledge

Problem Solving: Understanding components of complex problems; approaching topics and problems from various perspectives; analyzing multiple dimensions of a problem; identifying problems and developing solutions.

Analytical and critical thinking: Comprehend, prioritize, and synthesize diverse kinds of information including scientific data and interpersonal cues for client-centered decision making

Communication: Writing skills, presenting material in an easy to ready manner, familiar with writing reports; public speaking and effective communication skills.

Cultural Sensitivity: Develop appreciation for diversity within societies and an understanding of interactions between different communities; historical, economical and geographic international appreciation, work with culturally diverse individuals and communities

Critical/Logistical Thinking: Effectively review and evaluate goals and policies; Perform cost/benefit analyses; create and evaluate financial reports/statements 

Research skills: Data collection; process and synthesize vast amounts of data and apply where relevant; application of information for policy development; forecast trends
