As leaders in the classroom and the community, teachers play a central role in shaping the minds of future generations.
Key Skills & Knowledge
- Identify individual and collective learning needs
- Plan and deliver instruction for students working within approved curriculum
- Role model positive relationships and communication for children and youth
- Meet with parents and address concerns
- Organize, manage and potentially supervise Teacher Assistants and parent volunteers
- Consult with other professionals to support individual student needs and development
- Assess and evaluate student progress
- Participate in meetings, seminars and professional development
- Manage logistics such as injuries, family emergencies and forgotten items like lunches
- Supervise or organize extra-curricular and after school events
- Assign and provide feedback on homework and prepare and grade tests
- Identify and implement remedial programs for students who need additional support

Potential Industries
Teachers in Alberta are regulated through the Alberta's School Act and Certification of Teachers Regulation. School teachers must be certificated by Alberta Education.
Teachers can work in:
