TFDL Makerspace Training

Online training for TFDL makerspace equipment

Welcome to the TFDL Makerspace Online Training!

The TFDL Makerspace provides hands-on access to technologies for DIY making and collaboration.

Access to the Makerspace requires the completion of the safety orientation and quiz and signing an electronic waiver.

This is an online training module for each piece of equipment available in the Makerspace that can be useful to refer back to when using the equipment.

Each module consists of:

  • An overview of the technology including applications
  • Learning how to set up the equipment
  • An introduction to the software used for specific equipment
  • Learning how to troubleshoot common problems

Community Guidelines

The TFDL Makerspace provides hands-on access to technologies for DIY making and collaboration for current students, faculty, and staff. We require you to follow our community guidelines to foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment. Thank you for contributing to a creative and positive space!

  • Access to the Makerspace requires completion of the safety orientation quiz and the electronic waiver.

  • Contact staff if you would like to recalibrat e or use equipment outside of the default settings.

  • Breakage happens! Let staff know if something breaks, is not working properly, or supplies have been used up.

  • Respect the space by leaving the Makerspace cleaner than you found it.

  • No food is permitted in the Makerspace. Drinks must have a secure, screw-on lid.

  • All equipment must remain in the Makerspace and operating equipment is not to be left unsupervised.

  • Work must stop at closing time. If your project will take you several days, at the end of the day the project must be put away and equipment returned to a state in which others can use it.

  • Library staff have the final say on what is permissible in the Makerspace. Library-provided supplies such as 3D printing filament, Cricut vinyl, and thread are intended for use in the Makerspace; removing supplies for use elsewhere or for commercial projects is not permitted. If unsure, please ask a staff member.

  • Library staff are not responsible for personal belongings left in the Makerspace.

  • Harassment of Library staff, fellow Makerspace users, or other Library patrons will not be tolerated.

  • Do not use Makerspace equipment to create objects, including weapons, that violate local, provincial, or federal laws, or intellectual property rights.

  • Access to the Makerspace is a privilege which can and will be revoked if members do not follow these guidelines. Use of the space is also subject to content outlined in our training, and to University policies.
