Non-Traditional Theses
Gather data, materials, or experiences using methods appropriate to your thesis—this could include video, performance, storytelling, or participatory approaches. Use tools and spaces that support creative, embodied, or collaborative knowledge production.
Key Considerations
1. Find the Right Tools, Spaces and Supports
- Identify tools, platforms, or spaces that can support your creative or digital work.
- Seek out training on new methods, media, or formats you plan to use.
- Understand what tools are supported by the institution for ongoing support.
2. Document and Reflect Throughout
- Continue to reflect on the expectations around blending traditional and non-traditional work to meet academic requirements.
- Continue to document ephemeral, experiential, or relational work to support analysis and evaluation.
- Continue to consider documentation and preservation practices while deciding and using the tools and workflows for your project.
