Governance & Organizations
There are a number of Métis organizations and associations in Canada. Most provinces have their own association, which can provide information and support for Métis people in their area. The provincial organizations listed below are democratically elected and are referred to as the "Governing Members" of the Métis Nation. As the Métis National Council describes, such organizations "are the contemporary expression of the centuries-old struggle of the Métis Nation to be self-determinig within the Canadian federation." >>Read more
- Métis National CouncilSince 1983, the MNC has represented the Métis Nation nationally and internationally. It receives its mandate and direction from the democratically elected leadership of the Métis Nation’s governments from Ontario westward. Specifically, the MNC reflects and moves forward on the desires and aspirations of these Métis governments at the national and international level.
