- University of Calgary Writing Symbols Lodge The mandate of Writing Symbols Lodge at the University of Calgary is to provide a culturally appropriate environment that encourages and supports the success of Indigenous students in their pursuit of knowledge and higher education. Writing Symbols Lodge provides academic, personal, and cultural support services and programs to prospective and current First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students, and offers a welcoming and supportive learning environment for the whole campus community.
- Rupertsland Institute Rupertsland Institute (RLI) is an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) and is incorporated under the Non-profit Society's Act. The Métis Nation of Alberta assigned RLI with a triple mandate in education, training and research. RLI has developed programs and services that embrace the principles of labour market self-sufficiency, informed decision-making, strategic partnerships, lifelong learning, and enhanced accountability.
Métis-focused Courses
HTST 443 - The Métis People of Canada: An interdisciplinary study of the Métis people of Canada, with special emphasis on the historical, social, economic, and poltiical factors influencing their emergence and continued survival as a distinct indigenous group in Canada.

INDG 201 - Introduction to Indigenous Studies: A multi-disciplinary, theoretical and empirical overview of the situations, perspectives, and aspirations of selected Indigenous peoples with a focus on the Canadian context.

EDUC 530 - Indigenous Education: Students will be introduced to the national and international experiences and advances of Indigenous peoples as related to education. Particular attention will be given to understanding the histories and diversity of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples of Canada and the concomitant implications that this has for education policy and practice.
