Canada: The Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy

The Tri-Agency (CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC) Research Data Management Policy outlines expectations of researchers, research communities, institutions, and funders around digital data management, stewardship and sharing. These expectations address the collection and storage of data; the creation of metadata to aid in discovery and use of datasets; best practices around preservation, retention, and sharing of data; and recommendations for acknowledgement and citation of data, in order for researchers to be credited for their data.

As well, other Canadian funders other than the Tri-Council may have RDM requirements in their funding opportunities: for instance, the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) requires RDM practices to be described in applications for several of its programs. Make sure that you read the program requirements carefully before submitting your application.
