Institutes
- Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning (University of Calgary) The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning advances the work of better understanding and improving student learning and the teaching approaches and practices that facilitate that learning.
- Mount Royal University's Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning a nexus for communication and collaboration, providing resources and coordinating initiatives locally, regionally, nationally; a community of scholars collaboratively advancing the existing body of knowledge about teaching and learning; a research centre facilitating and supporting investigation leading to deeper understanding of and sustained improvement in student learning
- Institute for Law Teaching and Learning An Institute of Gonzaga University School of Law, Washburn University School of Law, and University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. Law schools have obligations both to their students and society to provide a learning environment that helps students achieve the highest academic standards and prepares students to assume their responsibilities as effective, moral attorneys. The Institute’s mission is to help law schools meet those obligations through its work to improve the quality of teaching and learning in legal education. THE INSTITUTE'S GOALS ARE TO: provide national leadership on effective teaching and learning in law schools through its conferences, training programs, and consulting services; maintain a national reputation for quality programs, responsiveness to law teachers' needs, and innovation in law teaching; support student-centered curriculum reform; serve as a clearinghouse for resources on improving the quality of legal education; and support research and development of materials to enhance teaching and learning in law schools.
Conferences
- Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy The Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy is focused on higher education teaching excellence and the scholarship of teaching and learning. The conference showcases the best pedagogical practice and research in higher education today. Sessions address disciplinary and interdisciplinary instructional strategies, outcomes, and research. Ultimately, the conference is an opportunity to demonstrate effective instructional practice and disseminate the latest research aimed at improving the quality of higher education.
- Higher Education Summit The Higher Education Summit is an annual high-powered event that explores the top issues affecting post-secondary education today.
- Learning Specialists Association of Canada Conference The Learning Specialists Association of Canada (LSAC) is a voluntary, national association for professionals who focus on the application of learning theory in higher education. By offering instruction in learning strategies and study skills, LSAC members support and further the educational goals of students, faculty, staff and school administrations. LSAC’s purpose is to develop, encourage, and model sound professional and ethical standards among its members while facilitating the dissemination of current and emerging trends and research in learning. - The SoTL Guide (Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning, University of Calgary) An online guide with a two-part SoTL tutorial (I: Understanding SoTL, II: Doing SoTL), as well as a blog called The SoTL Guide.
- SoTL Canada SoTL Canada is a special interest group of STLHE which provides a targeted opportunity for SoTL scholars to form a community to share findings and challenges, to engage in opportunities for broader dissemination of SoTL work, and to consider ways to catalyze SoTL initiatives at the institutional, regional, national, and international levels.
- SoTL Annotated Literature Database This website compiles key literature about teaching and learning such that it is available for university and college scholars and students from across all disciplines who wish to improve their practice or conduct research pertaining to these topics. Each entry comprises a topic heading, a brief overview of the topic, a short list of annotated key literature, highlighting ongoing debates in the literature.
- The SoTL Advocate During the fall semester of 2014, the office of the Cross Chair in SoTL at Illinois State University (ISU) established this weblog titled The SoTL Advocate to highlight SoTL and to encourage discussion within the SoTL community on various topics of interest to those working in SoTL at ISU and beyond. The SoTL Advocate editorial team invites ISSOTL members to add the blog to their reading lists.
Professional Associations
- Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education The purpose of the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education (CSSHE) to promote scholarship related to postsecondary education through publications and scholarly conferences. The CSSHE is a registered charitable organization, funded through membership fees, subscriptions, donations and a grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
- The Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education The sites in this collection include hand-built faculty teaching portfolios and scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) projects that were created over a period of eight years.
- Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching is an independent policy and research center.
- The International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association (HETL) We fulfill our vision of advancing the scholarship and practice of teaching and learning by focusing our mission on four core areas: 1) global networking and interdisciplinary collaboration, 2) research, innovation, and academic publishing, 3) higher education development and capacity building, and 4) human rights and social justice. - International Society of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL) [international] The goal of the Society is to foster inquiry and disseminate findings about what improves and articulates post-secondary learning and teaching.
- Learning Specialists Association of Canada The principal purpose of the Learning Specialists Association of Canada is to: Provide national and regional leadership on issues relevant to our members; Promote the professional status of our members; Develop, encourage, and support sound professional and ethical standards among our members; Facilitate the networking of our members to share information and hold conferences and other gatherings; Support the professional development and practice of our members; Present, publish, and disseminate research and discussion material appropriate to our members; and, Serve as a link with other similar organizations internationally. LSAC was created in 2011 through a merger of the Learning and Study Skills Association and the Learning Specialist Association of British Columbia. In 2015, LSAC was one of the founding members of the International Consortium of Academic Language and Learning Developers along with AALL, ALDinHE, and ATLAANZ in Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand respectively.
- National Resource Center - First Year Experience and Students in Transition The National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition serves as the trusted expert, internationally recognized leader, and clearinghouse for scholarship, policy, and best practice for all postsecondary student transitions.
