The Nickle Numismatic Collection

The Nickle Numismatic Collection is the most important academic money collection in Canada.

Byzantine Coins in the Nickle Collection

The Nickle Numismatic Collection houses 150 exquisite coins of the Byzantine Empire, mostly gold and a few bronze types.

The coins were generously donated by Lionel Conn.

Byzantine coinage was used in the Eastern Roman Empire after the fall of the West, and it consisted of mainly two types of coins: the gold solidus and a variety of bronze coins.
